What Is a Fire Hose Reel System & How Does It Work?
A fire hose reel system is a first-response firefighting system designed for building occupants to use during the early stages of a fire — before BOMBA arrives. It provides an immediate, pressurised water supply at the point of fire, giving building occupants and trained wardens the ability to contain small fires before they spread.
The system consists of five interconnected components: a fire pump set, a dedicated fire water storage tank, a pressurised pipework distribution network, hose reel cabinets positioned throughout the building, and an automatic pressure-maintenance jockey pump.
Under UBBL Malaysia, hose reels must be positioned so that every point in the building is within 36 metres of a hose reel nozzle — ensuring full building coverage without hose extension.

Electric-driven fire pump with diesel backup, sized by hydraulic calculation to deliver the required flow rate and residual pressure at the most hydraulically remote hose reel. BOMBA pump performance test required at commissioning and annually.
