The Malaysian government is restricting FM200 (HFC-227ea) import quotas as part of Malaysia's Kigali Amendment obligations — a binding international agreement to phase down high-GWP hydrofluorocarbons. FM200 has a global warming potential of 3,350 — one of the highest among commonly used suppression agents.

What Is FM200 & How Does It Extinguish Fires?
FM200 (HFC-227ea, heptafluoropropane) is a gaseous clean agent fire suppression system that extinguishes fires through a combination of physical and chemical mechanisms — primarily by absorbing heat from the combustion reaction. It discharges as a colourless, odourless gas that reaches design concentration within 10 seconds, suppressing the fire before it can spread to adjacent equipment.
FM200 leaves zero residue after discharge — no cleanup, no equipment damage from the agent itself. It is electrically non-conductive and safe for normally occupied spaces at standard design concentrations. These properties made it the dominant clean agent suppression system for server rooms in Malaysia for over two decades, before supply restrictions and environmental concerns shifted demand toward lower-GWP alternatives like FK5112.
