What Is a Wet Chemical Kitchen Fire Suppression System?
A wet chemical kitchen fire suppression system is specifically engineered for Class F fires — fires involving cooking oils, fats and grease. Standard water-based fire suppression systems cannot be used on cooking oil fires — water causes a violent steam explosion that spreads burning oil, making the fire significantly worse.
Wet chemical systems discharge a specially formulated alkaline agent through precision nozzles positioned above your cooking equipment and inside the exhaust hood. The agent reacts with hot cooking oil through a process called saponification — forming a thick, soapy foam layer that smothers the fire, cools the oil surface and prevents re-ignition.
Under Malaysian fire safety regulations, commercial kitchens in restaurants, hotels and food courts are required to have an approved automatic fire suppression system as a condition of their operating licence and annual fire certificate.
